Solar - a bright future with IGES

 Solar is a very promising technology, has a bright future here at IGES and has a prominent place in the our "toolbox" of technologies.  Low efficiency, low quality equipment can have a negative effect on the economy and energy efficiency of a project.  Here at IGES we are only interested in technology that is high quality and high efficiency, to put it bluntly, solar technology that makes economic sense.

Solar projects that rely on grants or subsidies are a short term, short sighted proposition that benefit only a select few.  Only by stepping outside the current "quick buck" pervasive trend can we reach sustainability and make a difference. Solar like any other technology has to make economic sense otherwise it will be relegated to the select few or novelty applications.

 IGES is in the final stages of development of a game changing solar technology.  A 26% efficient solar cell at the same price per watt as existing 17%-18% cells.

 Let's face it one of the major drawbacks of solar technology is aesthetics.  Who wants to have a $1m dollar home and have a bunch of ugly solar racks and panels on the roof? It just isn't going to happen.

That's why we have invested considerable time and treasure into developing BIPV panels for the market.  Ceramic backed, high efficiency, high quality building material that are the roof , are the wall, part of the total system.  this is not to say retrofits are not possible, they are and make economic sense in most situations.
